Hello and welcome to FST 201 Introduction to Film Production! Through this class, you will not only gain comfort in film, video, sound and post-production software technology, but you will also learn to work in different modes of film production: narrative, documentary and experimental. By the time you leave this class, you will have the necessary tools and terminology to create and understand films in any of these modes.
A little bit about me:
This is now my eleventh year teaching in the Film Studies Department at UNCW. Besides this class, I teach 2D Animation, Interactive Media, Post-production (Editing), Experimental and Documentary classes. I have my B.S. (yes, I know what you're thinking and no it's not that) in Radio-TV-Film from the University of Texas at Austin and my MFA in Film and Video Production from the University of Iowa.
But I don't just teach film, I make films, too.
Now for the factoids:
I have an eight-year old son and two-Chiweenies (Chihuahua-Daschunds).
I taught English in the Czech Republic for two years.
I have been teaching at UNCW since 2006.
I'm a bit of a generalist filmmaker (meaning that I do a little bit of everything) but my specialty is experimental animation.
I was born in Portugal, but moved to the US when I was three.
I grew up in Austin, TX where I was really into mountain biking/cycling but now that I live near the ocean, I'm really into kayaking and hope to learn to surf.
I am a shapeshifting reptilian.
One of the above claims is not true.
